Direct Corrosion rate monitoring

The corrosion rate is measured continously using MetriCorr's ER coupon and ICL-02i.

The ER coupon for corrosion rate and electrical parameters

The ER coupon is placed in the soil in the proximity of the pipeline. The rod type can be placed using an auger whereas the flush type requires an excavation. The coupons are designed as Electical Resistance probes with a shielded reference element and an exposed coupon element simulating a coating defect. The recidual thickness of the exposed element is determined from measurements of the electrical resistance of the elements.

The ER coupon placed in the soil and connected to the pipeline experiences actual soil conditions and all electrical events. Corrosive conditions causing corrosion is registered and the effect is accumulated. The result is an overall evaluation of the cathodic protection system.

The cable is fully equipped for all electrical coupon measurements and terminated in a gold plated plug securing correct connection to logger. The rugged probe construction and durable cable minimizes damage during installation. More about ER coupon

The ICL-02i for monitoring ER coupons

The ICL-02i is a two channel datalogger monitoring electrical parameters and corrosion rate on two ER coupons. The decrease in ER coupon thickness is measured, and while the ICL-02i synchronously logs:
    pipeline a.c. voltage
    pipeline d.c. potential
    a.c. current of each coupon
    d.c. current of each coupon
    spread resistance of each coupon

The corrosion rate is calculated from the decrease in thickness and shown. The ICL-02i provides a diagnostic tool for any corrosion detected. More about ICL-02i

The ICL-02i can be placed in a standard test post to monitor two coupons. The coupons are connected to the pipe through the logger, and a reference electrode is connected to the logger. The logger can be remotely controlled. More about Remote monitoring.
